Since today is Earth Day, I thought that I would write about a subject close to my own heart for many reasons. We have become a throw away world....ever look at how much trash we create just by eating fast food? The bag, the wrappers, the napkins, etc. all end up poluting our already toxic environment. I'd like to say that I don't eat fast food but come on who am I kidding? What most people don't think about is the toll on the environment from clothing manufacturers.
Our desire for fast, cheap trendy fashion is clogging up the landfills. Man made fabrics are basically doing the same thing to the earth that plastic is doing to the oceans. At the same time we are throwing away $$$ that we work hard for on things that we are brainwashed into believing will make us happier, thinner, more succesful. Here's some food for thought (pun intended)...while we are spending alot of money on cheaply made disposable fashion - there is an abundance of quality, vintage DESIGNER goods at rock bottom prices waiting to be purchased. Yes, I sell vintage clothing but this isn't a sales pitch. Like many of you, I am a label lover...sorry to say but true. In almost every thrift or consignment store that I frequent I find high end designer items at less than 10% of their original cost. It takes some time to scout out the really good stuff, discover which stores are going to give you the best bang for your buck but in the end it's worth it. Not only are you helping the environment and saving money for more worthwhile things i.e. vacations, college, etc., but while being a conscientious FASHIONISTA!
